Visitors in Library Reading Room, 1985
The Helen Crocker Russell Library plays many fundamental roles in the horticultural community. It supports the education of the next generation of gardeners and horticulturalists by serving ornamental-horticulture and landscaping students from City College of San Francisco, Merritt College and Bay Area UC campuses. It is an indispensable research tool for educators, historians, librarians, authors, SFBG gardeners and SFBGS staff, volunteers and docents.
The Library a place of enjoyment and learning for children and families, and provides assistance and advice to Bay Area gardeners and the general public. By serving these vital community roles the Library supports the educational mission of San Francisco Botanical Garden Society, helping to cultivate the bond between people and plants.
